Closing activity

Let children know there is a reward for bringing their fun book to each session.

cueIconRaise your hand if your like stickers/stamps? Every time you join us you will get a stamp. You will get a stamp each time you remember to bring your fun book.

Encourage children to involve their parents.

cueIconWhen you go home, make sure you show your parents how to fill in your asthma diary. After every session show your parents what you learned and have them sign your fun book. Your parents may need your help to know more about asthma.

Have children focus on the positive by discussing their favourite part of the session.

cueIconBefore we leave today, let's quickly go around the room and hear about your favourite part of today's RAP session. My favourite thing was hearing your stories and what you do to help your asthma. What was your favourite part?

Encourage children to discuss their favourites parts.
Reinforce parental involvement.

cueIconFor the next session show your parents what you did today. Try the Fun Book activities at home and come to the next session on (date and time). Remember, have your parents sign your Fun Book and bring the Fun Book and diary on (date and time).

Thank you for coming.

You may want to have the children record the date and time of the next session.

If time allows, have each child read the "things to try at home" in the Fun Book.

Adapt for Older Students

Encourage more reflection of feelings.

Have them help run the video, assist in passing out handouts, demonstrating and provide steps for peak flow meter use.

Ask a different question at the end (i.e. "What would you like to learn?" or "What would you do differently if you did not have asthma?")
